This song was written with Hal David who is one of the geniuses of songwriting of our time. Hal penned countless hits including "What the World Needs Now", "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head", and too many more to name. You can check out his whole astonishing list of hits by going to his website.
I had the honor of meeting Hal through my friend and hero Jimmy Webb a few years back. I went to Hal's place and we wrote three songs. This one seemed perfect for this project. Again, it is just a simple and straight forward as it gets...a song of simple gratitude.
Thank you my Lord for a beautiful day
Thank you my Lord, I'm so happy to say
Thank you my Lord, for the flowers that grow
There'd be nothing I know, without you
Thank you my Lord, for the sun in the sky
Thank you my Lord, I'm so grateful that I
Thank you my Lord for the rivers that flow
There'd be nothing I know without you
For the music and the songs that I sing
For the laughter and the joy that you bring
For the mountains that you gave me to climb
Holding my hand all the time
Thank you my Lord for the birds and the trees
Thank you my Lord, I am down on my knees
Thank you my Lord, for the raindrops that fall
I'd be nothing at all without you.
The children's choir sang on this one and of course they were brilliant!

Also, I wanted some strings on this song so I called my good friend and fabulous violinist Ruth McGinnis who, it so happens had just completed an incredibly intense year of successful treatments for cancer. She came in and put down several tracks of sweet violin on "Thank You My Lord" and given what she'd just come though I think there was just such a sense of magic that she brought to the track. Thank you Ruth and continued prayers and good health!
